JACKSON, Andrew. Check Signed ("Andrew Jackson"), Washington, D.C., April 2, 1835, partly printed check drawn on the Bank of the Metropolis, accomplished entirely in Jackson’s hand, payable to Andrew Jackson.
2 1/4" x 4 7/8" (short tear, small hole and cancellation cuts not affecting signatures). Not endorsed on the verso. Fine, fresh example. Jackson's checks are uncommon.
Check with imprint of Wm. Davis, Printer, on the lower right margin.
While serving his second term as President, Jackson pays the amount of .00 to himself, signing twice on the check's front side.
Jackson (1767-1845), born March 15, 1767; died June 8, 1845; South Carolina-born 7th (and the first Democratic) President of the United States (1829-37); military hero of the War of 1812; introduced the spoils system and boosted expansionism; dubbed "Old Hickory."
