THEODORE ROOSEVELT. White House card with an autograph note handwritten in black ink by Theodore Roosevelt as President to his advisor Dan Tyler Moore and Secretary of the Treasury George B. Cortelyou wishing to appoint George M. Hotschick as Ambassador to Austria-Hungary based on his relationship with Germany: “Send copy of letter to Moore & Cortelyou at Pittsburg, N.H., G.M. Hotschick of the Germans should be put as in connection with the German; Moore says the Brumders [family of George Brumder] with him; important to employ him.”

President Roosevelt would appoint Cortelyou as Ambassador to Austria-Hungary in 1909, only five years before Austria-Hungary declared war against Serbia igniting World War I.

The note is one page and imprinted with “White House, Washington” at the top right corner, measures 4” by 2.75”, and in overall fine condition. Two similar White House cards signed by Theodore Roosevelt sold for ,554 at Heritage Auctions in April of 2013 and ,000 at Doyle Auctions in April of 2015.
