Description
Franklin Pierce, Autograph letter signed, 1 page, Concord, NH, July 27, 1857. Five month's after leaving the White House, Pierce thanks Major Alexander Hamilton Bowman for some drawings of public buildings. Bowman was the Chief Engineer of the Treasury during Pierce's Administration and was involved in the design and construction of several public buildings in Washington. He was most likely sending Pierce drawings of buildings he worked on during Pierce's Presidency. The letter shows very slight toning in areas but is generally in excellent condition, with a nice full "Franklin Pierce" signature.Bowman went on to serve as Superintendent of West Point during most of the Civil War.
