Back in the Early 70's my cousin was associated with the NY Mets.  The Mets used to do train whistle stop tours along the north shore of Long Island.  My brother and I got to ride in the Mets car with Gil Hodges, Tug McGraw, Bud Harrelson, Ed Charles, Ed Kranepool and  Al Jackson.  I was able to sit and talk with all of them as the train went from stop to stop.  Gil Hodges was absolutely the most polite and patient man ( I was just a little leaguer )  My mom made me promise to tell him she loved him when he was with the Brooklyn Dodgers.  He got a big kick out of that.  I was a first baseman so Gil gave me lots of pointers and encouragement.  Ed Charles was also very nice, They all were but Ed and Gil stand out.  When I told them I was a Yankee fan they feigned being mad, but they got me the Orange Met hat and all signed.  Going out to the clinic at each stop and being a "prop" was also so exciting, getting to catch the ball from each of them first!  Well It's time to let someone else own this one of a kind piece of Met history.  Good luck bidding!.
