WILLIAM McKINLEY
Nineteen days after becoming Governor, McKinley writes to a student desiring an appointment.
Typed letter signed:

" Executive Chamber, Columbus, Ohio, 1892 January 30. To Mr. Thomas Thomas. In full: "
I have your favor of the 20th and note contents. I do not know yet what we will be able to do yet for you, but you know it is my desire to aid you in every possible way. The appointments have not been agreed upon to which you refer, so there is nothing I can do now. Wishing you success in school
". After his father, William McKinley, Sr., died on November 24, 1892, Governor McKinley dropped the "Jr." from his signature.

represented Ohio as a Republican in the
U.S. Congress
from 1877-1883 and 1885-1891, and he served as
Governor of Ohio from 1892-1896
.
Elected 25th U.S. President in 1896, McKinley was reelected to a second term in 1900 with a larger plurality of votes than any other Chief Executive before him. The U.S. became a world power during his Presidency, winning a war with Spain (1898) and acquiring overseas colonies
(Puerto Rico and the Philippines). On September 6, 1901, at the Pan American Exposition in Buffalo, New York, President McKinley was shot by Leon Czolgosz, an anarchist. He died on September 14, 1901, the third President to be assassinated. Normal mailing folds. Light surface creases. Toned. Corners slightly creased. Slightly soiled. Otherwise, letter in fine condition. Envelope soiled, toned, torn, and worn.

Return Policy:
If any substantial defect not described in the item listing is found by the purchaser, the item(s) must be returned within 3 days of receipt. Item(s) may not be returned except for reasons of authenticity or substantial defect in description. Shipping
- We ship via FedEx and USPS. Shipping charges are calculated at time of payment and are dependent on the number of items purchased and the destination shipping address.
