    WILLIAM RUSSELL LANGDON (1891 - 1963)
was an important American diplomat and Far East Asian expert who was appointed to posts in Japan, China, Korea and Singapore.  He was born in Smyrna, Turkey to American parents, graduated from Trinity College in Connecticut, and entered the foreign service in 1911.   Langdon was the Assistant Japanese Secretary to the Embassy of the United States in Japan (Tokyo) from 1918 to 1921.  He was Vice Consul in Yokohama from 1920 – 21.  From 1922 to 1941, Langdon was Consul in Antung, Tsinan, Mukden, Dairen, and Seoul.  He served in the State Department during WWII (1941 – 43) and was the U.S. representative on the Swedish ship Gripsholm, overseeing the exchange of Japanese and American internees.  From 1943 – 45, Langdon was the Consul General in Kunming, China.   From 1945 – 46, he was a political advisor to John R. Hodge, the military Governor of South Korea under the United States Army Military Government in Korea (USAMGIK).  After the war, Langdon was Consul General in Seoul from 1946 to 1948 and Consul General in Singapore from 1948 to 1951.

    PLEASE READ:
I have been buying + selling American historical autographs & documents for over 30 years and a former member of both the “Manuscript Society” and the UACC.  We ship everything INSURED (thru the USPS) with a value over .  This helps us know that the item you took the time to purchase arrived safely.  We have not had a package turn up lost in over 25 years, though one package went rogue about 15 years ago but eventually turned up.  Packages are shipped out within 1 – 3 business days, but typically the next day.  Please understand, we do not make any money on shipping costs, but rather run a deficit over the course of a year.  Most people don’t realize that ebay and paypal deduct a total of 13% from my stated shipping charges (leaving me 87% of that amount for actual postage + insurance).  Everything we sell is packaged with the utmost care.  Please read my ebay feedback over the last 20 years.  The comments are often – the best packaging I have ever seen, “bullet proof” packaging, etc.
